Why is using Water such a Problem?

Automobile washing has traditionally been considered the first step in detailing since the invention of the horseless carriage. However, have you ever really thought about what happens when you take the sponge and soap to the surface of a dirty car?
Soap and water does not completely break down dirt and grime that is on the paint surface. So moving the sponge across the paint surface actually pushes the dirt along with it. The result is paint scratches. Scratches in paint are often so minute that they can't be seen. But they can allow elements to get under the paint and destroy the finish over time. Even if you were to use a car wash product that could break down all the dirt, what is the first part of the cleaning process? That's right! You spray the surface with a hose. So the dirt has already scratched the paint as it is pushed along by the pressure of the hose. This process is compounded by the softeness of the newer automotive paints. Have you ever given some thought into how much water is wasted by washing this way? Well, the average amount of water wasted is around 125 gallons per car ! With the ever increasing cost per gallon of water this can be a very costly mistake to make especially when you add the cost of the cleaning products to the bill.

Now is the time to think 'green' , save water and convert to Waterless Car Washing , the added bonus is of course a cleaner car with a deeper shine.

The effects are compounded even more by the use of a pressure washer. The dirt is now forced even deeper in to the paint as it is pushed along under pressure. The abrasiveness of the pressure washer intensifies the problem when used on fiberglass parts, convertable hoods, rubber mouldings, plastic 'body kits',custom decals and stick on Vinyl advertising 'wraps'. If the paint is chipped or the lacquer is cracked pressure washing can force water underneath causing even more damage. The end result could be a costly repair bill and possibly a new paint job. If you current detailer still uses a high pressure water set up ask them if they are insured against the possibility of such damage. Also if you use one of those unmanned 'wash bays' take note and read the Disclaimer sign, they are NOT responsible for any damage caused by their equipment ! .

In today's busy world, we often don't have time to go through the wash and wax procedures ourselves. So what do you do ? You drive down to the automated car wash ! First the car is hit with high pressure water. Then it goes through a series of brushes that are capable of scratching the paint by themselves. Again, with the newer softer paints in particular, we end up with swirl marks in the paint. The brushes can also cause damage to trim mouldings and emblems as well as the possibility of scrathes caused by debris stuck within the brush rollers. Did you ever ask yourself what condition was the last vehicle in that used this wash before you? Imagine if it had rusty/corroded or damage panels panels and where do you think all of the debris that comes loose with these type of cleaners ends up ? Still think those Automatic washes are worth the risk?
Additionally, the water they use may also cause problems, hard water such as found in the Southwest can leave water spots on the paint that can be very difficult to remove and harsh detergents can cause streaking and damage to the finish. Something else you need to think about before you take the car to the local car wash is the fact that they use recycled water. But what if the filtration system is not properly maintained, you may be washing your car with the water that was used for the last several dozen cars. It's like being the 10th person in the bath tub with the same bath water. Yuck......

Still want to risk it ?

You can rest assured that our Waterless Car Wash Procedure will not cause such problems.
